IRL Art Camp is a day & night to celebrate our phygital connections; a gathering of VR Art Camp’s Artists and Friends in nature, in the Bodega Dunes Campground. It is rooted in the virtual communal efforts of the different cohorts. We aim to facilitate the collective embodiment of these virtually lived experiences with the social aspects of virtual reality.
The reverse approach of cultivating an online group in reality helps to deepen and evolve trans-species communication. We will have Blob Tales and Tent Flying, kites, and plan to have workshops, participatory performances, artist talks in the dunes near the Ocean, and Campfire (if possible). Through these, we analyze the concept of ‘belonging’ and interconnection.
IRL Art Camp connects and empowers the different cohorts of the social VR residency program which mostly only have met and existed online. We continue our conversations about the possibilities of creating and inhabiting this communal virtual place with care and elevating the shift of our up-scaling digital existence together. We exchange the impacts of our phygitally (the entwined digital and physical) lived experiences and conclude the online cacophony and avatarism in a digestive container. IRL camping is the harvest and substantial manifestation of the 3 years of VR Art Camp to bond our community.
Campsites are reserved with the support of the AltEx Grant from Southern Exposure. Thank you!
IRL Art Camp is being organized by Judit Navratil and supporting friends. It is all volunteer-run. We appreciate all your offerings! Camping and joining our activations are free (limited camping spots). Unfortunately, our budget doesn't cover fees for artists, traveling or parking costs, or food. A day-use fee is $8/vehicle.
